Little Library in Lah'mu

As an avid reader and moviegoer, my home is not necessarily limited to the four walls I live in. Books filled with rich stories can easily trap me and send me off to fantastical alternate dimensions — all without me ever needing to leave the comfort of my chair. I have also found that movies and TV shows with expansive universes can have a similar effect on me, even when I’m not actively watching the show. With this concept of home in mind, I chose to design a small, personal library. The library is encased in a Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box. There are no doors or windows on the outside, so the box represents the solitude and sanctuary that I find when traveling to fictional worlds.

This project was definitely difficult, since I’m not well-versed in 3D modeling. I worked in SketchUp to create the 3D model of my little library, which required a lot of playing around and learning how the tools worked before I could actually work on my design. The sculpture was easier for me because I’m a moderately crafty person, but I did need to do some problem solving to build the bookcases. I then filmed my sculpture and combined it with the video of my 3D model using Adobe Premiere Pro.
