Drive
Ever since I was young, I’ve fallen asleep and daydreamed during car rides. I would imagine running alongside the car, jumping over trees and doing flips. As I grew older this shifted to daydreaming about driving. I love to drive. I find it calming and peaceful, especially at night. So I wanted to explore the idea of dreaming about driving through the use of lights at night and a low angle of someone at the wheel. You don’t see their face, just their hand, so they could be anyone just driving around at night. To make the sequence more dreamy I repeated the lights shining on the car seat and repeated and reversed the first shot of the person driving near the end. And at the very end I have a shot like someone waking up as though they were asleep at the wheel. The twinkling sounds in the music also add to the dreaminess of the video.
This project was conceptually and technically difficult for me. My original idea for the dream required camera help and better weather. The first driving sequence I thought of also required camera help and a higher quality camera for shooting in low light. I finally settled on this sequence after shooting a bit. I'm not entirely happy with how it turned out, but I did learn that I need a concrete idea before I can create a video (storyboarding would have probably helped too).
