1 of 1000 Untitled Drawings
I love watching drawing videos; it’s fascinating to see the process behind drawing a character or a scene. I’ve been drawing since I was 10 years old and have never made a drawing video of my own process, so I took this stop motion project as an opportunity to do that. Originally I wanted the character I drew to come to life a bit at the end with her eyes looking side to side, but I ran into technical issues with animating that. I’m happy with how the stop motion turned out though. It was fun to draw and see myself drawing. I like how the jittery aspect of the stop motion and the sudden appearances of lines (like some small ones around the knees) kind of make the creation of the drawing more magical. You start with a blank page and then suddenly there’s a girl there!
I ran into a couple issues with this project. Unfortunately my tripod wasn't tall enough to get a flat overhead shot of the table with the notebook. This worked out fine for the drawing portion of the stop motion, but the angle of the shot caused problems when I went to do the eye animation. The angle made it difficult to overlay a traced image of the girl and have the strokes line up. The final shot also left the girl's head out of focus, which made tracing the image a little harder too.
